How to Reactivate a Suspended Twitter Account
We are often asked how to reactivate a suspended Twitter account, in fact it’s one of the most popular admin questions we see. Twitter accounts can be suspended for a number of reasons that break the Twitter rules.
Notice getting back a suspended twitter account is totally different from restoring a disabled twitter account that was done voluntarily.
The Twitter rules include:
- Impersonation of another
- Trademark infringements
- Publishing other people’s confidential information
- Violence and threats
- Copyright issues
- Unlawful use
- Spam and abuse
The rules are simple, as is the penalty for breaking them.
Reactivate a Suspended Twitter Account
If your Twitter account has been suspended, you will need to remove any offending material from your timeline and assure Twitter that you won’t do it again. There is an appeals process you will have to follow in order for you to reactivate a suspended Twitter account.
Reactivate a Deleted Twitter Account
If you deleted your Twitter account and want to reinstate it, time is the most important issue. If you close your account, it sits in hibernation for 30 days in case you change your mind. After that it is deleted and the username and email is made available again.
People delete their accounts for a number of reasons including, ragequitting, fear, boredom, drunkenness, or they simply don’t want to use the platform any more. Whatever the reasons, many people soon change their mind.
However, there are exceptions where the accounts have been reactivated weeks later, sometimes up to 6 months. Twitter’s housekeeping doesn’t always wipe everything right away, it is possible to request a deleted account be reactivated up to those 6 months.
- Email restore@twitter.com from your Twitter email address
- Include all your account details in the mail
- Title it “restore my deleted account”
- Ask Twitter very nicely to restore the account
You can also complete a support request form asking the same thing from here.
Reactivating a deleted Twitter account isn’t an exact science. It isn’t always possible as the automated housekeeping system may clean up quicker than the stated time. In this case, you have no option but to register for a new one.
It’s also worth noting that reactivating a suspended Twitter account due to breaking the Twitter rules is not possible. Twitter states that they will not restore suspended Twitter accounts if they have been used in a manner in which they deem unsuitable.

My account is suspended. I filled out the ticket thing n sent it. I git an email from Twitter support with rules and saying “reply above the line” I dud as I was told and sent it. That was two days ago. Am I going to hear from them soon? And if I get my Twitter back will they restore my followers?

First of all, remember that Twitter probably has above 200 million unique users worldwide, the response could take a week or a month, but so far, good news, since you have received a response.
Yes, you will get your followers back if they restore your account (though if your account remains inactive for a long time, you might lose them naturally, since people tend to unfollow when they see abandoned o suspended accounts.)

I received a reply email stating that twitter accidentally suspended my account because it got caught up in the automated spam clearing. The email stated that my twitter account has been restored but this was yesterday and my twitter is still suspended? When will it be restored?

I’m having the same problem as a few others here. Account was suspended; I went through process of submitting an appeal using the online forms; 7 days later I got a response which said the suspension was a mistake and my account would be restored. More than 24hrs went by; still suspended. I re-opened the request to ask if there was something further I needed to do. Got the same generic auto-reply an hour later. I waited twelve hours; still suspended. I opened a NEW request ticket to ask again if there is anything further I needed to do, or if they could at least tell me how long it would be till I could use my account again, and I included a link to the original ticket… same generic response one hour later. It’s now been more than 7 hours since the last response from them; still suspended. In all of these generic responses, there is the following statement:
“Please note that it may take an hour or so for your follower and following numbers to return to normal.”
So far it’s been close to 48hrs with no result.
If ANYONE here knows how to exit this auto-response loop and actually get to the next hoop we’re supposed to jump through in order to REALLY get our accounts back, please post it here!

Just wanted to follow up…
FINALLY, after more than 48hrs after I was notified that my account would be restored, it is finally unsuspended! I have no explanation for the delay, as I never got any further communication from Twitter. The last thing I did was to use the rating system on that second ticket to indicate that I was “unsatisfied” with the “solution”. I did that earlier this afternoon. I don’t know if this did anything to escalate it, but I thought I’d mention it. I’ve since changed my rating to “satisfied” now that my account is finally back. I hope this information is helpful to someone out there.

My account was suspended, and I never received a reason why. I have not violated any of the rules. I have since filled out the forms, and the reply to have this looked into, and still no response. It’s been over 3 weeks, and 3 emails later still no response. Nothing in my spam folder, just silence. I could understand if I was some power user or something but I only have like 20 followers… Why can’t I get any help with this?

I have had the same issues. my account has been suspended for 3 weeks. i have never received any kind of notification whatsoever from twitter, not even a response to the many “tickets” i have filed. i really my account back as well. i truly don’t think i have broken any twitter rules i have been over them a number of times to be sure. i send the ticket, get the automatic email response, respond to that and nothing. if i have done something against twitter i would surely apologize and never do it again, but they are not communicating with me at all for me to even know what i need to apologize for. can anyone help? i am so lost without my twitter…which is pathetic i know, but soooo true!

Same here. I was suspended for something so innocent that I accidentally did. I have filed two tickets and gotten the automated emails, but it has been weeks now and nothing has come of it. I was nice in my emails and explained the mistake, apologized, and stated that I would not do it again. Who knows whats going to happen. I have lost all of my followers. I started a new account, but how maddening is it to follow your former followers and none of them follow back.

My twitter account was suspended for following too many people. I only followed so they will follow back because it was a new page & I was looking forward to lots of follows. I’ve messaged them on Gmail. It sayd reply above the line, what line? So I sent it twice in various places. My only question is will my account’s followers be restored & the people I follow? Similar to so many others here my account was suspended once then got reactivated after I asked for a new password. A couple of hours later, it got suspended again. Between the two suspension I only added 1 more twit to follow. Now after 3 tickets and 1 week no real person (aside from the generic auto response) acknowledge receipt of ticket or tell me what I did wrong even though I have apologised and wrote above the line on the generic auto respond. So now what do I do, do I keep sending tickets or wait, if so how long? Also what is the reason for my suspensions esp since I did none on the list of this article. HELP! All I do is follow some news and 5 of friends/family accounts. I need it back!

My Twitter was suspended unannounced and without warning. Can we at least get a warning email telling us what violation was mad and informing us our account is going to be suspended? I think that getting a warming will be fair instead of me wasting time trying to log in and receive the nag at the top. By the way how are we supposed to “remove” any offending material from the timeline and assure Twitter that we won’t do it again if it won’t even let you view your tweets. I’m actually pissed! Not here to complain! I’ve had twitter for 3 years now I’m well aware of the rules of twitter.

I don’t even know if my acc was suspended, I was using it on my iPhone app then out of nowhere I was logged off, and twitter asked me to login again, after several attempts it said that the login name or password were not authentic. I then went about resetting my password, and had an email sent to me to do it, I did, new password and all. I tried to re-enter twitter with my new password and yet again no luck. Then I thought to search myself on twitter (@bazeen1) and found that I no longer even existed.
So my questions are what happenend, why did it happen? And how do I retrieve my account?

My Twitter account was suspended without warning or an explanation. It was virtually impossible to get help. I eventually managed to find a ticket which I needed to fill in which I did and sent it back to them. Many hours later they sent me an email asking me to write above the line but was unable to do so, I asked my husband to see if it was my doing that I ciulndt write above the line – it wasnt. I managed to write a footnote onto the bottom of the email. Next I had another email from them saying the email address I returned my appeal to was an address they DO NOT USE any more but seeing as this is an automated reply form how can this be? I am housebound and met some lovely tweeps on there. I have now been without my account now for 3days without an explanation or knowing what if anything I have done wrong. I read the entire post and reason as to why your account can/will be suspended. But nowhere in there did it state that you account can be suspended if they feel its be compromised or hacked. I believe that is the reason the suspended my account, because I typed in an incorrect password repeatedly. So Please tell me that something can be fix/undone so I can get my account back and all of those who I’m following !!!!
